We caught up with Hannah between matches to chat about her training regimen, on-court strategies, and the passion that fuels her game. Her insights reveal a player whose dedication and enthusiasm are propelling her to new heights in the sport, making her one to watch.
Why Pickleball?
Q: How did you get into playing pickleball?
I played D1 Squash then professional squash after graduation and started playing pickleball for fun just to meet new friends and find a new hobby. Slowly after starting, I started to level up against all the rec players and found the sport sparking up a passion for competition again. I decided to enter some pro tournaments around the USA and soon found myself loving the competition and wanting to become the best.
Q: Why do you think pickleball is so popular?
I believe the easy access to courts, barrier to entry at the lowest level allows anyone and everyone to try the sport and hence enabling so many people to compete and have fun together makes it popular.
Q: How do you feel about the social aspect of pickleball?
Being apart of the pickleball community has introduced me to my boyfriend, and some of my best friends that I never thought I would have met without the sport. Its allowed me to live in Florida and find new areas of town and be involved in celebrity events.
Q: What do you hope to see evolve that would make the pro sport even better?
I think at the pro level having more recognition for players globally and money for the mid tier athletes would help increase the level and desire of the pros to continue pursuing this as professional athletes while making a living. Building more tournaments and competition abroad would help grow the sport.
Training and Playing Like a Pro
Q: What’s your typical break-down of your workouts/practice during a week?
My week when I am not traveling consists of: 1 gym session a day and 2 pickleball sessions a day (1 drill, 1 match play) and I add in Pilates, yoga, cycling, Crossfit into my training as well. I also like to meal prep and eat healthy throughout the training weeks to fuel my body.
Q: Take us through your favorite pickleball shot or strategy on the court.
My favorite shot is an ATP, when you are outreached outside the court and can angle the ball back into the court around the post.
Q: What’s your game day ritual/routine to get ready?
I like to eat a healthy clean breakfast and have a morning coffee or matcha latte, then I stretch and warm up near the court and get into my mindset to compete.
Q: What’s one of your favorite pickleball matches?
My best win was the CNPL 2023 wher I won my first ever national title.
Q: If you could challenge any celebrity or athlete to a pickleball match, who would it be?
I would want to play with Roger Federer and compete on court with him.
