PB5star on the Road is an ongoing series by Alex Weiner, PB5star's Marketing Events Manager and the face behind the PB5star van. Each installment, Alex shares her firsthand take on what it looks like to build real community: court by court, conversation by conversation. In this month's column, she reflects on recent stops in Naples, Boca, and Tampa, and why showing up in person is what turns a curious player into a loyal one.

Connection is what turns a one-time purchase into something more lasting. It is why every mile in the PB5star van matters, why every stop at a local club matters, and why some of the best brand moments happen courtside, not behind a screen.
This is the rhythm of PB5star on the Road. We show up, set up, talk with players, fit footwear, hear what people are looking for, and watch a regular day at the courts become something more social, more memorable, and more connected. With pickleball continuing to grow across the U.S., these in-person moments carry real weight. They give players a chance to try performance gear for themselves and give us a chance to be part of the communities that make court sports so compelling.
The Van Changes the Energy
When the van pulls into a club parking lot, the response is immediate. People look up. They walk over. They ask questions. Often, players who have never met start talking because they are standing in the same small circle, comparing shoes, sharing schedules, or talking through what they want from their gear.
That is what makes this format worth repeating as a column. Every stop has its own personality, but the pattern is familiar: curiosity opens the door, conversation keeps people there, and shared experience builds trust. At clubs across Florida, we have seen a standard practice session turn into a broader community moment simply because the setup invites interaction.
Naples, Boca, Tampa: Different Stops, Same Pattern
Some stops come with a rush of instant energy. Naples was one of those. The van drew a crowd quickly, and that excitement created its own momentum. Players wanted to see what we brought, try things on, and stay in the mix. The setup became a meeting point.
Other locations build more steadily, especially when clubs let members know we are coming in advance. That heads-up makes a difference. People arrive ready to stop by. Friends tell friends. Teammates bring teammates. What starts as a product demo becomes part of the club’s day.
Larger events bring another layer. At tournament settings and high-traffic venues, the van creates visibility from a distance, then conversation up close. It helps us stand out, but more importantly, it gives players a natural place to gather, ask questions, and spend time with the brand in a way that feels personal.
Try-On Moments Tell You Everything
One of the things you learn quickly on the road is that players know when something feels right. Sometimes that happens at a major event. Sometimes it happens in a parking lot.
We have had spontaneous moments where someone spots the van, asks about the shoes, tries on a pair, and makes a decision almost immediately. Not because they were pushed there, but because they felt the difference for themselves. That is the value of being present. It shortens the distance between interest and confidence.
And the reactions are rarely polished or rehearsed. They are direct. A player puts on a pair, takes a few steps, and their face changes. That response matters. It is honest, and it tells us more than a digital click ever could.
Community Grows Through Repetition
The most important part of these visits is not just the immediate sale. It is the return invitation. It is hearing that players want us back. It is seeing familiar faces at the next stop. It is watching someone who first came over out of curiosity become a real supporter of the brand.
That kind of loyalty is built through repetition and presence. Showing up with energy. Taking time to talk. Letting players try pickleball gear in the environment where they actually play. Joining the flow of a club rather than interrupting it. Those small moments add up, and they shape how a brand is remembered.
More Than a Demo
PB5star on the Road is not just about bringing products to different courts. It is about showing up where the game is already creating connection and adding to that momentum in a meaningful way. The van may draw attention, but the real value comes from what happens next: conversations, introductions, product trial, repeat visits, and a stronger sense of community around the sport.
That is what this recurring column should capture. Not a polished brand recap, but the lived experience of being out there, stop by stop, meeting the players who make this community what it is.
