Adriana’s Pickleball Journey
Q: How did you get into pickleball?
My surroundings. Because of my past racket sports experience, people started telling me that I should try pickleball. But the name itself did not convince me at first. I kept hearing about it and finally tried it—and I could never stop since then!
Q: Pickleball has been exploding in popularity lately. In your opinion, what makes it so popular?
It’s such a social sport; so much fun and easy to play at first. It’s been around since the ‘60s—you know it when you know it!
Q: What 1-2 things do you hope to see evolve that would make the pro sport even better?
It’s already happening! As soon as it becomes more accepted in the mainstream, more money and sponsors will come. The sky is the limit. Hopefully, it will get to the tennis level soon. It’s also starting to get really popular at the collegiate level.
Q: What’s the best pickleball community or club experience you’ve had?
The National Pickleball League! The team format is the best vibe—learning and strategizing with new team partners is amazing
Pro training and strategy tips
Q: What’s your typical weekly training schedule?
I try to work out a couple of times a week and drill as much as possible.
Q: Take us through your favorite pickleball shot or strategy on the court. What's the key to nailing that perfect dink or drive?
My favorite shot is an ATP (Around the Post). The key to nailing it is to let the ball drop all the way and push it forward with a target. There’s nothing better than a great reset from an attack right back into the kitchen.
Q: What’s your game day ritual/routine to get ready? Do you have any go-to pump-up songs or playlists to get you fired up before a game?
I love to wake up early, dress up in my PB5Star apparel, and play “Hear Me Now” – the best beat ever! But sometimes I like to start with ‘70s love songs. It depends on my mood. I know it’s weird, but you asked!
Pickleball clinics and why they matter
Q: Why should someone attend a pickleball clinic instead of just playing or watching videos?
Being there in person, hands-on, and acting it out is much more productive than just watching videos. Camps help you learn how to strategize and make better shot selections. Doing it in person is very different than just watching videos.
Q: Who benefits the most from attending a clinic?
Beginners would benefit the most. The earlier, the better—to avoid picking up bad habits.
Q: How long does it take to see improvement after attending a clinic?
It’s up to the player. If they keep drilling what they learned at the camp, they can see improvement in the same week.
Q: What follow-up practice do you recommend after a clinic?
I recommend grabbing another player who is just as dedicated as you are and spending 80% of the time drilling and 20% in recreational play!
